Here’s where this came from.

When parents come into the therapy room, sometimes months, sometimes years after their NICU journey, and they start talking about what happened, something comes through every single time.

The small moments, or glimmers with staff. A member of staff who said “that must have been so hard” instead of moving on. Someone who helped them hold their baby when everything felt impossible. A professional who helped them to feel like a parent, who gave them space, let them know it was OK to feel and that they were not alone.

In therapy, we call these glimmers. These small moments of safety, connection, being truly seen. And they anchor people in the middle of something that feels so scary and out of control.

Most of the staff those parents describe have absolutely no idea they did something so significant.

That’s why this guide exists.

So what’s actually inside?

Be the Glimmer is a free guide with 10 practical ways to support NICU parents, across the whole journey, not just while they’re on the unit.

Inside you’ll find:

  • What NICU parents actually need to hear, and what to avoid even when it’s coming from a really good place
  • How to acknowledge what someone’s been through without trying to fix it or move past it too quickly
  • Why bonding can be genuinely hard, and how you can help a parent feel like a parent
  • What triggers can look like after NICU, and how to adapt your space and language
  • Why checking in months later still matters more than people think

A bit about me.

I’m Dr Frankie Harrison, Clinical Psychologist and founder of Miracle Moon and The NICU Space CIC. I also had a son born at 31 weeks in 2019, so I’ve been in that room as a parent too.

I specialise in supporting past NICU families in therapy, in training, and in the community I’ve built for parents who needed somewhere to land after discharge.

I made this guide because the people who show up in neonatal care every day deserve to know the weight and the worth of what they do.
